A newborn baby boy delivered at Hai Phong International Hospital, Vietnam was pictured firmly holding an intrauterine device (IUD) contraceptive coil used by his mother in an attempt to prevent pregnancy.
The neonate's mother, a 34-year-old woman was said to already have two children after which she had an insertion of the IUD into her uterus in an attempt to prevent another pregnancy.
During the course of child birth, the intrauterine contraceptive coil simultaneously came out from the mother alongside the healthy baby boy whom immediately reached out and held it firmly. This scene was captured by an obstetrician - Tran Viet Phuong. He said:
After delivery, I thought him holding the device was interesting, so I took a picture. I never thought it would receive so much attention.
The baby was pictured to have cried uncontrollably whenever the IUD is taken from him. Conversely, he stopped crying each time he gets hold of the device.
However, the device was eventually taken from the newly born only after he fell asleep. When he woke up from his sleep, he didn't demand for the IUD through his tears.
The baby boy weighed 3.2kg and is said to be in good health alongside his mother. Meanwhile, the photo went viral after the hospital shared it on social media.
