Ighalo created a record for himself and the club after his opening goal in United's 2-1 victory over Norwich during an FA Cup last-8 clash on Saturday. Manchester United eventually won the match in the last minutes of extra-time.
Odion Ighalo's goal against Norwich in FA Cup - Znebs
After his loan exit from Chinese football club Shanghai Shenhua in January, the ex-Nigerian forward has scored a total of five goals and one assist for Manchester United in all competitions.
Although Ighalo is yet to score in the English Premier League, most of his goals came in cup competitions like the UEFA Europa League and English FA cup.
As it stands now, Ighalo is delicately positioned to create a new record if he scores in his next game whenever he starts. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are expected to take on Brighton on Tuesday at the American Express Community Stadium.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed his delight on Ighalo's goal against Norwich. He said:
He is a proven goalscorer and played his part in both goals. He is a great person to have around the dressing room too.Odion knows how much we value him in and around the dressing room; he’s a goalscorer, a poacher, he’s strong, we can play the ball into him, he showed for the second and Paul [Pogba] found him.
