A pipeline exposure has occured in Abule Ado Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos. Schools, residential buildings and cars within Abule Ado and Festac communities were adversely affected.

According to an eyewitness report, a tipper attempting to offload sand caught fire, which eventually spread to a nearby pipeline, initiating the blast.

The sudden and massive explosion created a vibration that was felt across different places in Lagos. It was reported that some residents of the neighboring Ogun State also felt the explosion.

At the moment, four deaths have been confirmed as a result of the explosion while more than 15 buildings collapsed from its massive vibration. Plumes of smoke were visibly rising into the sky after the explosion.

The explosion also caused wreck on parked cars around the area where it occured. Windscreens of various cars were also destroyed during the explosion. In addition, the dining hall of a nearby school was destroyed by the explosion. Reports suggest that student were in the building when the explosion occured.

The director-general of LASEMA, Dr Femi Osanyintolu gave a confirmation statement that the pipeline had been previously vandalized by people whose identity are yet to be ascertained.
