Recall that in 2017, Pulev was initially scheduled to fight Joshua in Cardiff, only to opt out of the fight after sustaining an injury to his shoulders during a training session. He was later replaced by Carlos Takam whom Joshua defeated via a technical knockout.
Pulev who is a former heavyweight champion in 2014 had previously suffered a TKO defeat in Hamburg by the former reigning champion, Wladimir Klitschko. However, his conquerer Klitschko suffered a TKO defeat from Anthony Joshua which made him WBA, WBO and IBO Champion respectively.
Shockingly, Joshua lost his all his belts to Andy Ruiz in New York via a TKO which came through in the 7th round. He however avenged his surprise loss in December 2019 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. He defeated Ruiz through a decision from the judges, thus reclaiming all his belts.
