The Kaduna State Police has confirmed the killing of seven persons in an attack on Maro village. Maro village borders the communities between Kajuru and Kachia Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

Muhammad Jalige, the Command’s PPRO, ASP in a statement said:

  • The police received a sad information from Kachia's DPO on February 12, 2020. The incident which occurred at about 19:15hrs saw some unknown gunmen in military uniform invaded the Maro village sandwiched between the two councils.

  • The armed men entered the village market in a vehicle and started shooting sporadically and in the process shot some people.

Jalige further stated that the DPOs of Kajuru and Kachia mobilized the patrol teams of the command to the area to restore normalcy. The mobilization was done as soon as he got the information regarding the attack. Unfortunately, seven persons were already found dead and five others injured.

Jalige said:

  • Both the dead and injured victims were evacuated by the Police to Kachia General Hospital. The dead bodies were deposited in the mortuary while the injured are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

  • Normalcy has since been restored in the area. Investigation and manhunt of the fleeing bandits is ongoing with a view to bringing the perpetrators of this barbaric act of criminality to justice.
